MSC shines in National Product Innovation Festival

Mobarakeh Steel Company (MSC) has secured two golden awards in the third National Iranian Product Innovation Festival; one for the disc pelletizer process control system and the other for innovation when it comes to galvanized products.

According to the correspondent of Steel Newsletter, the daylong festival, which was held at Sharif University of Technology on January 17, 2019, was meant to name innovative firms.
After securing the top prize for galvanized coils, MSC's planning and market research manager said high strength and resistance against atmospheric corrosion are among top features of the new product.
Gholamreza Taheri further said local production of these coils prevents $80 million from being spent on imports annually. “High strength and resistance against atmospheric corrosion set apart the new MSC product (S350GD grade) which is a coated galvanized item.”
He said that the product in question used to be imported from abroad, adding commercial products are often taken into account in the steel design process. “As for this product, MSC sought to make sure the final product leaving its plant has these two features (strength and corrosion resistance). Fortunately, MSC was able to produce the product it had in mind and present it to the market.”
What was important was that all market chain would come into play in the production process, he said, adding, “Accordingly, the raw coils were produced at MSC plant and the rest of the technological process was handled by Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Automotive Sheets Company, which focuses on the automotive industry. Eventually, the final product was presented to the country's automotive industry.”
He went on to say the coils in question are used in production of light and heavy vehicles such as buses and trucks, adding estimates suggest that some 150,000 tons of these coils were annually imported. “We have set the stage for local production of the same amount. Let's not forget the fact that MSC seeks to merely meet the local need for this product.”
Taheri said indigenized production of coated galvanized steel and production of color-coated special steel products will soon save the country $80 million in import costs, adding MSC's coated galvanized steel can compete with imported products and can be sold on international markets.
MSC determined to build on local knowhow to construct new steel plants
Meanwhile, MSC's Research and Development manager said MSC seeks to develop the steel industry technologically and is determined to build on local knowhow to construct new steel plants.
Shahram Abbasi made the comment after receiving one of the festival's top prizes for MSC's  disc pelletizer process control system.
He went on to say the R&D Department of the steel giant has been active since the inauguration of the steel giant and has created a protective umbrella, both within and beyond MSC premises, for research projects. “Over the past few years, the workings of the R&D Department have been reviewed and efforts have been made to create an innovative ecosystem in Mobarakeh Steel Company. As a result, a steel research center was set up by MSC in cooperation with Isfahan University of Technology and Hormozgan Steel Company. Also, a memorandum of understanding was signed with the Science and Technology Department of the Presidential Office so that the establishment could help MSC create an innovative ecosystem. On both fronts, a good degree of success has been achieved.”
He said the good grades MSC has received in assessments together with several prizes it has secured in festivals are among the achievements of the company. “Getting a reward for technology management and innovation followed by the prize for the best innovative product can be held up as examples of MSC success. The accolades two MSC products have won in the third National Iranian Product Innovation Festival are among other achievements of the company.”
Abbasi went on to say in addition to walking down the path of innovation and product development, MSC has worked out a new outlook. “Accordingly, it is taking giant strides toward developing the steel industry technology and securing the technical knowhow needed to construct new steelworks.”
In conclusion, he praised the new product as a unique innovative product which not only pushes up production levels at the pelletizing plant, but cuts product costs and improves the HR productivity.
